The Complete Baby Nest Guide: Everything You Need to Know
The Complete Baby Nest Guide
Everything you need to know about the safe and correct use of the STARSTEPS® Baby Nest, based on the official user manual.
1. What is a baby nest?
A baby nest is a small, enclosed resting place specifically designed for newborn babies. It gives your baby a feeling of security similar to the feeling in the womb: enclosed, safe, and warm. The STARSTEPS® Baby Nest is handmade and designed for supervised rest and recovery, for moments when your baby is awake or resting while you are present.
Important: The baby nest is not intended for nighttime or prolonged sleeping use. For nighttime, place your baby on a flat, safe sleeping surface such as a bassinet or crib, according to pediatrician recommendations.
2. For what age and size is the baby nest suitable?
- Age: 0 to 6 months
- Maximum length: 60 cm
- Maximum weight: 10 kg
Babies grow quickly. As soon as your baby approaches the maximum measurements or shows signs of wanting to move, it's time to stop using the baby nest.
3. Dimensions of the baby nest
- Outer dimensions: 60 × 40 × 18 cm
- Inner sleeping surface: approx. 46 × 20 cm
Note: the baby nest is handmade. Small size variations up to ±1 cm are normal and no cause for concern.
4. What is the baby nest for and what is it not for?
Intended Use
The baby nest is designed for supervised daytime rest: moments when your baby is awake or resting while you are present. It is a supplementary product that offers comfort and security, but not a substitute for a bassinet or crib.
Not Intended For
- Nighttime or prolonged sleeping
- Use without parent or caregiver supervision
- Use on high surfaces or near stairs
- Replacement for a bassinet, crib, or co-sleeper
5. When should you stop using the baby nest?
Stop use as soon as one of the following situations occurs:
- Your baby can roll over independently
- Your baby tries to stand up, sit up, or pull themselves up
- Your baby no longer feels comfortable in the nest
- Your baby is heavier than 10 kg or longer than 60 cm
- Your baby tries to move out of the nest independently
If in doubt, it's better to stop too early than too late. Safety always comes first.
6. Safety Guidelines
- Always use the baby nest under supervision. Never leave your baby unattended.
- Always place the baby nest on a flat and stable surface
- Always place your baby on their back in the nest
- Ensure the cover is taut and flat, without loose folds or creases
- Never use it on high surfaces or near stairs
- Regularly check the nest for wear and tear and discontinue use if damaged
The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends babies sleep on their backs on a firm, flat surface such as a crib. The baby nest is a supplementary comfort product and not a sleeping solution.
